Sparks rain down on the street as workers prep the existing structural support to accept the new sign

Giordano’s Gets a New Neon Sign

Nick Ulivieri | 5.22.12

If you’ve been down Rush Street in the past few weeks, you may have noticed a brand-spanking new sign hanging from the Giordano’s flagship location on Rush and Superior. A few weeks ago the new sign was installed under the cover of darkness, and fog, and I was on-site to capture all the action for Giordano’s.  The sign itself measures an impressive 14 feet tall by almost 4 ft. wide. In addition to the neon work, the outline of the sign is studded with 144 clear 11-watt light bulbs.

In the photos below, you’ll see my favorite shots from when the sign was first lifted off the truck, to when it was fully installed and hanging in its new home. I hope you enjoy the photos.

Hmm, for some strange reason I feel like pizza for lunch…
